Hey everyone! Happy Friday! I thought that due to last weeks blog post I would continue on this getting to know me more thing. Obviously, I love to travel but I thought this week I would give you all my top 10 places I would love to go to and why I want to go there. Before we get into this I want it known that I do know some of these are a little cliche, so don't judge me.
I'm starting my list with Greece. I have always been in love with the Greek culture and their history. Being that I am a huge history buff and I love mythology the Greeks myths have always been my favorite, which had originally been my inspiration to want to be an Anthropologist. I am getting the honor to be able to go to this beautiful country in April and I am so excited! (Stay tuned for more on this.)
The United Kingdom is second on my list and I know I'm cheating a bit with this one because I am putting multiple countries into one but I would love this trip to be an all together one so I bundled. I honestly want to spend a decent amount of time here so this one goes out to England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Once again I love history so I want to see all the amazing historical stuff, as well as the fact my favorite musician is from England and my favorite actor, is from Scotland.
Australia, I have always had a thing for Aussies (you can ask my Siri on my iPhone) but besides that I know this sounds silly and I'm going to warn you this will not be the only one I say this about.... if any of you are old enough to remember the movie The Rescuers Down Under, well I loved that movie with the Golden Eagle and I've wanted to go down under ever since. Once again I know it's silly, don't judge, that's rude.
The Middle Earth, I mean New Zealand! As some of you know New Zealand is where most of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings films were shot. I would love to be able to see the beauty New Zealand offers and maybe find me Orlando Bloom....
Alright so I said I was going to be cliche, well here it is..... Italy the land where my favorite food group and probably all my extra weight comes from! Italy is another history baby to me the Roman Empire! To walk in the historical ruins of a people so long ago is one of my dreams! Also, I totally would love the food.
So, I may pick places that are a tad bit repetitive sorry all but next on my list is Egypt! I seriously would love to get lost in a pyramid and honestly I probably would be okay with not being found.
Okay so I love Lions and Tigers and Zebras and Elephants and you know all the amazing animals you only see in the Zoo... I want to see them in real life! I want to go to South Africa I want to see what a Safari really is, not just a movie. Also, I don't know if any of you know this but South African's have the sexiest accents by far!
Israel, I know this one may sound weird but I feel like visiting Israel would be a very spiritual experience for me. Growing up in the church world I feel very connected to the history of Jerusalem. Also, I hear they have some of the best shopping in the world which you know I would not complain about.
Russia, honestly I love their architecture the buildings are beautiful. Also, back to my childish cartoonness well you know that cartoon movie, Anastasia? Well I love it and probably have watched it a thousand times but as I got older I learned about the real story and it is such a sad story but I'd love to see the castle in real life.
As many of you have seen in pictures of me you all know I am very pale. Well, that is because I am predominately Swedish and we still have family that lives in Sweden. I think it would be so cool to get to meet them and experience my heritage.
Of course, I want to see the whole world and plan on doing so, but these are just few that are on my to-do list first. That is all for this week I hope you all enjoyed this weeks post. Do you have a bucket list of places to go? If so, where? Leave a comment below and maybe we can get you there! Or at least have a good conversation about it. I will talk at you all next week!
Thank Goodness it's Friday! Welcome back to my weekly blog! I hope you all have had an amazing week and are stoked for the weekend. This week I wanted to write a little bit about something different, it's not about a trip I went on or any real current event but a topic that is really close to my heart, traveling while being apart of the LGBTQ+ community.
As some of you may know, I am in a Lesbian relationship. We have been together for about two and a half years and I love her very much. We have become used to weird looks, although part of it may be that Mia is more masculine and most people just think she is a boy. But, If we hold hands in public people will turn their whole bodies to watch us walk by. Now before you get the idea that we bring it on ourselves know that I am not one for PDA (public displays of affection) I believe that my relationship is my own business but I still would like to be able to hold my girlfriend's hand if I want to without everyone watching us. And this is in the USA where we are supposed to be safe. So it breaks my heart as a travel agent and a gay person watching my community being hated and punished for being in love.
We are in 2018 and people are still being punished for being gay. How messed up is that? Now, I do understand that some people do not agree with it and that's okay. I personally just believe that we as people should be allowed to love whoever we want and not have to worry about being hurt or killed. But, unfortunately that is not how the world works yet and there are in fact places I could be killed for who I love. I will never travel to somewhere I am not welcome with out being prepared and knowledgeable about the rules. Luckily enough I have been given the information to know where I am and am not welcome. So, because I love my community I have been educating myself so as a travel agent I know the places that are safe for my community to travel to.
I have included some maps below with different countries that are friendly to the LGBTQ+ community and others that are not. And I as a travel agent caution those in who are apart of the LGBTQ+ communities and allies to stay educated on the world. I want to educate everyone so when they travel they can have the trip of their dreams without having to worry about anything. Now, also I do want to bring to everyone's attention there are "Friendly" places that still have strict rulings on what LGBTQ+ couples are able to do including but not limited to PDA.
The PDF file above has more information on what the maps stand for and where each country stands law wise. This is from May 2017 but is the most resent as of right now.
I do believe that is all for this week! I hope you all enjoy this blog post. If you have any topics you'd like me to write about leave me a comment below. If you'd like more information on LGBTQ+ travel call us at 715-560-8189. I love you all and I'll talk to you next Friday!
