It is a bittersweet day today. Another airline is being dissolved today. They can say what they like but today USAir will take it's last flight. Starting tomorrow all former USAir flights will be American Airlines. I must add here that they were not my favorite airline for business travelers when they needed to make a change. However they did have a lot of areas that was not served by other airlines. With the loss of USAir we may also see more cities that they served being discontinued. Which is a shame and unfortunately happens.
In the recent past we lost Continental (United), Northwest (Delta), and Air Tran (Southwest). Do you remember Braniff International Airways, Midwest, Republic, TWA (Trans World Airline), PanAm (Pan American World Airlines), PSA (Pacific Southwest Airlines) and Eastern Airlines. Do you remember any that I might have missed? In the last 30 years in the industry airlines come and go. I have found that when an airline goes into bankruptcy they seem to come back some how. Like Eastern Airlines is operating again or Braniff came back a couple of times. I do not think that the current trend will have that options. When a company is merged into another company I fear they are gone for ever, which to me is a sad day indeed.
